Song Cycles
Song Cycles is a public artwork by Douglas Hollis. The project is comprised of five wind-activated sculptures that create an 'enchanted grove' within the Elizabeth Caruther's Park, a 2-acre urban park in Portland, Oregon. The design is based on the bicycle wheel and references the active bicycle culture in this city. The pieces, standing at 20' high, are activated by the wind. As they spin, the tuned spokes are plucked, creating a subtle, chiming sound. I assisted Hollis with his design through development, post-fabrication preparation, assembly, site coordination, and installation.
