Scream Booth - aka - THE Scream-Activated-Selfie-Machine

The Scream Booth is a multi-sensory, soundproof room and immersive public artwork encouraging people to interact with a gigantic digital oscilloscope and learn about the science of sound. Participants engage with audio devices on the interior (an intentionally designed space for people to feel uninhibited to scream in public).  When high pitched sounds are generated, a photo snapshot is taken and the image is temporarily displayed on the exterior of the booth. The vintage loudspeakers on the roof play a sound collage of captured sounds intermixed with informative recordings. The Scream Booth was installed at the Chabot Space & Science Center in Oakland, California in 2013. In its first year at the Center, it captured over 200,000 selfies - and screams.
