Mistree
In 2008 I assisted artist, Doug Hollis on his vision for a sculptural fountain. I helped him adapt his design from paper to physical form. We worked out several design issues by constructing a 1:3 wooden model. The final result is Mistree, a 16’ high, 26’ diameter stainless steel hyperboloid lattice structure. It’s described by Hollis as, “an armature for two expressions of water.” The perforated ring at the top creates a thick curtain of rain. Along the upper legs exists 80 mist nozzles producing a cloud of mist that moves in the wind, creates rainbows, and cools the area around the sculpture. The water expressions are programmed by a series of on/off cycles, providing an element of surprise. Lights in the paving illuminate the work at night. Mistree is a permanent public artwork located in the Green Discovery Park in Houston, Texas.
