Charleston Mural Proposal
In 2016 I proposed a mural design for a structural pillar beneath the I-64 bridge at Lee Street in the city of Charleston, West Virginia.
Taking cues from the surrounding, built environment of the site for this installation, I proposed a mural design that responds to the flow of traffic from the roadway I-64 above, and the flow of traffic below along Lee Street. The dual movement through space is suggested in the design through abstracted forms and basic shapes. My intentions were to use bright, vivid, energetic, and dynamic colors to activate the space. One gesture flows up from the base of the pillar, and the other from the top down towards the middle, where the shapes begin to merge.
